    Peter Haworth

    Clinical Director

    Peter moved to Jersey after graduating from the Royal Veterinary College in 1998, and has a special interest in orthopaedics and thoracic surgery. He is so passionate about small animal surgery that he visits America every year to learn about the latest industry trends. He shares his home with his wife, daughter and their springer spaniels, and enjoys diving, fishing, running, adventure racing and wakeboarding in his free time.

  • Andy Barcis

    Andy Barcis

    Andy qualified as a veterinary surgeon in 2005, and has been with our practice since 2006. His main interests lie in small animal medicine (particularly dermatology) and surgery, and he played a key role in re-establishing surgical and dental procedures to our St Brelade branch surgery. In his free time, he enjoys various outdoor pursuits.

     

     

  • Nick Thomas

    Nick Thomas

    Clinical Director and Head of Archway

    After graduating in 1998, Nick worked in Somerset, Australia and the New Forest. He settled in Jersey in 2010 with his wife Suzy and their twin sons, and enjoys soft tissue and keyhole surgeries, endoscopy and dental work. He is the honorary vet for the Jersey Kennel Club, and loves sport, food, drink, travel and music – he plays guitar for the band Wrong Direction.

    Anna completed her human psychology degree at the Royal Veterinary College. Her interests lie in small animal soft tissue surgery, equine medicine, equine lameness and small animal neurology. In her spare time, she enjoys horse riding, polo, outdoor activities and taking in the stunning Jersey scenery.

    After graduating from the University of Adelaide in 2021, Amy went straight into working at New Era. She loves tending to all species, and has a keen interest in soft tissue surgery and neurology. Outside the clinic, she enjoys running, hiking and solo travelling anywhere and everywhere.

     

     

  • Dr Carey Benander

    Dr Carey Benander

    DVM MRCVS

    Born and raised in Texas, Carey graduated from Cornell University in 2005 and came to Jersey in 2018 by way of New York, Las Vegas and Maui. She and her family relocated for Jersey’s sun, surf and beautiful surroundings, and have enjoyed island life with their dogs, Boo and Walnut, ever since. She has special interests in all aspects of small animal medicine.

  • Dr Hannah Hussain

    Hannah came straight to New Era after graduating from Cambridge University in 2019. Although enjoying all aspects of companion animal practice, she has an especially keen interest in small animal surgery, currently undergoing further studies to become one of only two Surgical Advanced Practitioners on Jersey.

    Growing up near London, she has always loved escaping the city, and spends most of her time outside of work walking, horse riding, and spending time in/on the water. Hannah is also the very happy owner of 2 ginger toms called Fred and George

    Izzie graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2022, and moved to the island to start her career with us the same year. She loves treating all species, but especially enjoys equine work, cow reproduction and small animal medicine. Originally from near the Peak District, she has a great love for all things outdoors, and is hoping to fully embrace the beach lifestyle of Jersey!

    Emily joined our team shortly after graduating from the University of Edinburgh, and loves anaesthesia, companion animal medicine and all things puppy and kitten. She is a qualified ski instructor, enjoys pilates, running and baking, and can often be found walking her dogs on the beach or enjoying an oat matcha latte.

    After moving from Warwickshire with her family, Jo joined our emergency team in 2022. She qualified as a veterinary surgeon in 2002, and after ten years spent at a charity practice she decided to switch to emergency work and obtain her emergency and critical care certificate. She spends much of her free time cycling, reading, baking, swimming and visiting the beach.

    Jo joined our team in 2017, and is an experienced small animal vet with a particular interest in ultrasound scanning. She lives with her husband, David, who is a local farrier, and their two children.

    Dr Maja Platiša

    Originally from Croatia, Maja grew up on a beef farm and graduated in 2015. She joined us in 2017, and after a few years away returned in 2022. She enjoys all aspects of small animal work, especially emergency medicine and surgery, and has a passion for swimming, long walks, volleyball, football and reading.

    Riccardo graduated from the University of Padova in Italy in 2017, and has worked in wildlife rehabilitation centres and zoos across the world. He has been in the UK full-time since 2019, and loves dealing with all pets, especially exotic animals. In his own time, he likes going hiking, going to the gym, playing football and getting lost in a good book.

    After qualifying as a veterinary surgeon in 2004, Suzy worked at our hospital, before moving to the New Forest for a few years and returning to the island in 2010. Her passions include dermatology, soft tissue surgery and client and patient care. She lives with her husband (a fellow vet) and their twin boys, and enjoys reading, singing, socialising and travelling.

    After qualifying from Bristol University in 1999, Ian moved to Jersey and joined our team. He holds postgraduate certificates in small animal medicine, is responsible for our mobile MRI visits and enjoys soft tissue surgery and working with reptiles, birds and exotics. In his spare time, he enjoys keeping fit through water sports, running and kayaking, and spending time with his family and their pets.

    John qualified as a veterinary surgeon in 1986, and became a partner at our practice in 1992. He has a keen interest in all aspects of equine medicine, especially endoscopy and internal medicine, and loves small animal work too (especially the canine kind). He lives with his wife, two children and their dogs and cats, and enjoys riding and snow sports like skiing and dog sledding. He is also the chairman of the Jersey Bobsleigh Club.

    Since qualifying as a registered veterinary nurse in 2003, Louisa has become an A1 assessor and clinical coach and achieved a certificate in exotic species and British wildlife. Her clinical passions include anaesthesia, critical care and rehabilitation, and in her own time she enjoys wildlife photography and looking after her many pets.

    Carla joined us as a kennel assistant in 2007, and after qualifying as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in 2011, she returned to join our nursing team. She enjoys all aspects of nursing, as every day brings new challenges and triumphs. When she’s not working, she can usually be found out and about with her dogs or curled up with a good book.

    After joining our team in 1996, Donna qualified as a registered veterinary nurse in 2004. She has been one of our hospital night nurses since 2015, and lives with her husband, Danny, their two daughters, Jaime and Ellie, their cats, Ash and Coal, and their many tropical fish.

    Georgia is one of our longest serving team members, and holds a certificate in nursing exotic species and British wildlife. Having previously worked as a New Era night nurse, she now enjoys working at Archway during daylight hours. A familiar face on the island’s agility circuits, she enjoys taking her dogs, Hero and Zazou, to agility events.

    Kiera achieved her veterinary nursing diploma from the College of Animal Welfare in 2021. She has two cats and two dogs of her own, and loves meeting pets in practice – especially golden retrievers and snakes. Her favourite parts of her job are anaesthesia and watching our patients go home feeling better.

    Rachael graduated with a first in veterinary nursing from Harper Adams University in 2021. She moved from Kent to Jersey the following year, and has enjoyed developing her nursing skills and experiencing island life. Her interests include feline nursing and emergency and critical care, and she is a big Leeds United fan and a keen footballer in her spare time.

    Rebecca has been with the practice since 2001, and qualified as a registered veterinary nurse in 2009. Her main interests include orthopaedic surgery, diagnostic imaging and training student nurses. Outside of work, she is kept busy with her sporty son, James, her cats and dog.

    Ruth joined the Archway team in 2015, and has held veterinary nursing and practice management roles since 1987. She moved to Jersey in 2018 with her husband, and enjoys dog walking, arts and crafts and painting and drawing pets and wildlife.

    I qualified in 2021 with Myerscough college. I moved from Guernsey to Jersey to develop my nursing skills in a modern and busy hospital. I love all parts of my job, especially anaesthesia and looking after patients through their recovery. In my free time I like to spend time riding my horse and looking after my two Guinea pigs.'

    Kerry joined us as a kennel maid in 1990, and has overseen the development and modernisation of our practice in the years since. She became our practice manager in 2022, and having gained an extra teaching qualification, she dedicates much of her time to training veterinary nurses. She also was the runner-up Pet Plan nurse of the year for 2014/2015.

    Val has been part of our team since 1992, and has helped to drag our accounts and administration office into the twenty-first century. A behind the scenes hero, she is often the first point of contact for our clients, and has been a vital contributor to our continued success.

    Hayley joined us in 1993, and as part of our equine team is responsible for organising the many visits our vets carry out. In addition to helping triage incoming emergency calls and coordinating visits, she assists with passports, insurance forms and travel documentation. An experienced hand, she loves sharing her knowledge with others.

    Caron joined the practice in 1999, and has two much-loved rescue cats called Luna and Pebbles. Her responsibilities include handling our many phone enquiries, running the pet travel scheme, organising sympathy cards, stock control and helping our clinical team with x-ray dose metre levels. Outside of work, she loves walking, table tennis and watching films.

    Gemma joined the team in 2015 and is our office supervisor. Her responsibilities include banking, answering email queries, entering laboratory results for our vets and supporting our accounting team. Much of her spare time is spent looking after her son, Tyler, and walking her dog, Lexi.

    As well as providing valuable support to our reception team, Margaret is responsible for making sure that over 3,000 are available to our customers, whilst adhering to all the in-house and RCVS protocols. Some say that she is the New Era computer mainframe!

    Novella is one our longest standing team members, and loves bonding with our clients and their pets. When she’s not working, she enjoys travelling, socialising with friends, swimming and going to the beach. Her cat, Rusty, is a regular visitor at our practice and keeps everyone entertained with his persistent meowing.

    Hannah joined our team in 2015, and is popular amongst humans and dogs alike. She can often be found offering treats to pets in the waiting room, and is currently completing a veterinary receptionist gold award. In her own time, she enjoys food and drink, looking after her pets, the odd flutter on the horses and doing white collar boxing for charity.

    Tracey has been with us since 2016, and her decades of experience in hospitality have taught her how to make everyone feel welcome. Outside of work, she is a keen amateur baker and cake decorator who hopes to make it to the Great British Bake Off one day.

    Rosie joined our reception team in 2018, and enjoys greeting our clients and patients (especially kittens). In her free time, she likes playing video games and recreating the characters’ costumes. She is keen to get a dog of her own in the future, but gets to see her family cat when she goes home to visit her parents.

    Tara joined the Reception team at New Era in May 2023 and enjoys meeting all the animals that come in.
    When she's not at work Tara loves the beach, eating out and also runs a Handwriting Service.
    Tara has 2 cats and a French Bulldog who loves doing zoomies and rules the house!

    Emilia joined the reception team at the beginning of 2022, She really enjoys greeting all the clients and animals especially the puppies and kittens!! She has a crazy springer spaniel, Indi, who is full of energy all the time and a cat, Dotti, who rules the house. When she's not working Emilia loves baking sweet treats and taking the dog for walks on the beach.

She is also registered with the Institute of Registered Veterinary and Animal Physiotherapists, and is currently working towards a master’s degree. She spends much of her free time with her dog, Evie.
