We’re cat friendly – what does this mean for you and your cat?
As Cat owners ourselves, we know that they can be shy and prefer peace and quiet. They are territorial and so being in unfamiliar places with the scent of other cats along with disinfectants and other pets can cause stress, fear and anxiety. Car trips are daunting, and cat boxes can be scary – no wonder a trip to see us can be fraught with problems!
Here at New Era Veterinary Hospital, you can rest assured that we aim to keep visits to us as calm, quiet and stress-free as possible. Our team understand how to treat and handle your cat in a caring, calm and respectful manner, aiming to make their visit as comfortable and stress-free as possible.
New Era Veterinary Hospital has achieved GOLD status.

Archway has a dedicated cat waiting room & cat only consulting room. New Era and Leodis have cat only sections of the waiting rooms with a large barrier to keep them separate from other pets, and all three practices have safe raised places for putting cat boxes up higher to help reduce stress. We can also provide clean towels and can add Feliway spray for those cats who need a little reassurance. We can facilitate waiting in cars if your cat is happier to wait outside the practice too.
If your cat needs to spend time being in the Cat Ward with us at New Era, we continue to strive for stress free with us. Your cat will have their own large kennel, with a castle house to provide a place to sit and survey from or to hide in, room for a litter tray and food and water appropriately spaced and will never be in direct view of another cat. Bedding is changed as needed but we aim to keep scent change to a minimum to minimize stress. Our Cat Ward is kept nicely ambient year-round, with peace and quiet, feliway plug ins and is away from our dog ward.
What makes a vet practice Cat Friendly?
Cat Friendly Clinic Accreditation is awarded by the International Society of Feline Medicine (ISFM). It is an internationally recognized award that awards a practice that has proven to understand and consider the specific needs of cats, aiming to make visits to the practice more cat friendly and stress free as possible.
Being a Cat Friendly Clinic, you can have peace of mind and reassurance, showing that:
We’ve achieved the minimum accredited standards laid out by the ISFM
We’ve considered all the needs of cats and have measures in place to minimise the impact of unfamiliar sights, sounds and smells in practice – e.g. feliway in place, cattery design so no cat is able to see another.
We’re trained in the gentle and sensitive handling of cats to show respect and care, aiming to minimise stress at all times.
We’re always available to talk with you about any concerns and answer any questions you have. We can offer cat care advice for your visits as well as tailor-made recommendations for your cat, for example specific dietary advice or an at home medication plan.
