Dr Andy Barcis
Clinical Director
BSc(Hons) BVSc MRCVSAndy qualified as a veterinary surgeon in 2005, and has been with our practice since 2006. His main interests lie in small animal medicine (particularly dermatology) and surgery, and he played a key role in re-establishing surgical and dental procedures to our St Brelade branch surgery. In his free time, he enjoys various outdoor pursuits.

Dr Ben Benander
Clinical Director
DVM MRCVSDr. Ben moved to Jersey from sunny Hawaii in 2018. A graduate of Cornell University, Ben has special interest in soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, oncology and emergency medicine. When not in theatre, he can be found surfing the waves of St Ouen or chasing his Golden Retriever or Spanish Rescue dog across the dunes.

Dr Peter Haworth
Clinical Director
BVetMed CertSAS MRCVSPeter moved to Jersey after graduating from the Royal Veterinary College in 1998, and has a special interest in orthopaedics and thoracic surgery. He is so passionate about small animal surgery that he visits America every year to learn about the latest industry trends. He shares his home with his wife, daughter and their springer spaniels & dachshunds, and enjoys diving, fishing, running, adventure racing and wakeboarding in his free time.

Dr Ralph Maalouf
Clinical Director and Head of Large Animals
BSc, DVM, CVA, CVFT, MRCVS, MBAAfter completing his degree in Animal and Veterinary sciences in the American University of Beirut, Ralph went on to get his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in Budapest. Since then he has completed a, equine rotating internship in a veterinary hospital in France, followed by an Equine ABVP residency at Sharjah Equine Hospital in the UAE. During that time, Ralph obtained a certificate in both mixed animal veterinary acupuncture and food therapy. In 2022 Ralph moved to the UK for an ambulatory job and at that time started and completed his Masters in Business Administration from Hult University. During his free time, Ralph enjoys spending time on the beach, travelling, or even cooking

Dr Nick Thomas
Clinical Director and Head of Archway
BVetMed MRCVSAfter graduating in 1998, Nick worked in Somerset, Australia and the New Forest. He settled in Jersey in 2010 with his wife Suzy and their twin sons, and enjoys soft tissue and keyhole surgeries, endoscopy and dental work. He is the honorary vet for the Kennel Club of Jersey, and loves sport, food, drink, travel and music – he plays guitar for the band Wrong Direction.

BVSc DVM MRCVSAfter graduating from the University of Adelaide in 2021, Amy went straight into working at New Era. She loves tending to all species, and has a keen interest in soft tissue surgery and neurology. Outside the clinic, she enjoys running, hiking and solo travelling anywhere and everywhere.

Dr Carey Benander
Veterinary Surgeon & Head of Leodis
DVM MRCVSBorn and raised in Texas, Carey graduated from Cornell University in 2005 and came to Jersey in 2018 by way of New York, Las Vegas and Maui. She and her family relocated for Jersey’s sun, surf and beautiful surroundings, and have enjoyed island life with their dogs, Boo and Walnut, ever since. She has special interests in all aspects of small animal medicine.

Dr Nathan Bouten
Veterinary Surgeon
After finishing up at the University of Cambridge in 2023, Nathan took off travelling around the world. Along the way he completed an aquatic animal externship at the Mississippi Aquarium in the USA. On his return to Jersey, he joined the New Era team in early 2024. Nathan loves working with all kinds of species, but his interests lie in wildlife conservation, bovine reproduction and equine internal medicine. When he’s not on the job. you can catch Nathan exploring new places, learning a new language or hitting the slopes.

Dr Ian Cox
Veterinary Surgeon
BVSc BSc GPCertSAM CertSAM MRCVSAfter qualifying from Bristol University in 1999, Ian moved to Jersey and joined our team. He holds postgraduate certificates in small animal medicine, is responsible for our mobile MRI visits and enjoys soft tissue surgery and working with reptiles, birds and exotics. In his spare time, he enjoys keeping fit through water sports, running and kayaking, and spending time with his family and their pets.

Dr Jo Hamilton
Veterinary Surgeon
BVSc MRCVS CertAVP BSAVA PGCertSAECCAfter moving from Warwickshire with her family, Jo joined our emergency team in 2022. She qualified as a veterinary surgeon in 2002, and after ten years spent at a charity practice she decided to switch to emergency work and obtain her emergency and critical care certificate. She spends much of her free time cycling, reading, baking, swimming and visiting the beach.

Dr John Hamilton

BVSc MRCVSJohn qualified as a veterinary surgeon in 1986, and became a partner at our practice in 1992. He has a keen interest in all aspects of equine medicine, especially endoscopy and internal medicine, and loves small animal work too (especially the canine kind). He lives with his wife, two children and their dogs and cats, and enjoys riding and snow sports like skiing and dog sledding. He is also the chairman of the Jersey Bobsleigh Club.

BVSc (Hons) MRCVSJo joined our team in 2017, and is an experienced small animal vet with a particular interest in ultrasound scanning. She lives with her husband, David, who is a local farrier, and their two children.

Dr Hannah Hussain
Veterinary Surgeon
MA (Hons) VetMB GPCert(SAS) MRCVSHannah came straight to New Era after graduating from Cambridge University in 2019. Although enjoying all aspects of companion animal practice, she has an especially keen interest in small animal surgery, currently undergoing further studies to become one of only two Surgical Advanced Practitioners on Jersey.
Growing up near London, she has always loved escaping the city, and spends most of her time outside of work walking, horse riding, and spending time in/on the water. Hannah is also the very happy owner of 2 ginger toms called Fred and George

Dr Charlotte Leakey
Veterinary Surgeon
Originally from the north west of England, Charlotte graduated from the University of Glasgow in the summer of 2023 and moved to Jersey the following September.
She enjoys caring for the variety of island animals but has a special passion for sheep! When not working she is often found down at the beach either reading or swimming, or spending time with her family and friends.

Dr Rebecca Ramsey
Veterinary Surgeon
MRCVSRebecca is from Jersey and graduated from The University of Nottingham in 2018 and after qualifying worked at New Era. She then went on to work as vet in London but is now back with us. Rebecca has a keen interest in all aspects of small animal veterinary from soft tissue surgery, to interesting medical cases and providing an excellent standard of care to her patients. Rebecca is currently working towards her advance practitioner certificate.
Outside of work Rebecca enjoys spending time with her daughter Yvie and her one eyed 20 year old cat, Jeffers.

Dr Suzy Thomas

BVSc MRCVSAfter qualifying as a veterinary surgeon in 2004, Suzy worked at our hospital, before moving to the New Forest for a few years and returning to the island in 2010. Her passions include dermatology, soft tissue surgery and client and patient care. She lives with her husband (Nick, a fellow vet here at New Era) and their twin boys, and enjoys reading, singing, socialising and travelling.
